I’ve been a member of the band the Future Idiots for close to a decade now. In fact, until recently I had the recording equipment of the Future Idiots in the living room of my home with the idea that we could basically work together and attempt to progress as a band every single day. During this process I was either too blind or too stubborn to realize that everything was falling apart around me. I was entirely too focused on the wrong things in life. I devoted all of my time, money and energy on the band. This blind passion affected my ability to have enough money to eat, I was sleep deprived from being overworked and I was anxiety ridden because I was failing to meet my own expectations as well as the expectations of those around me. Worse yet, all these issues began to bleed over into my personal life. I couldn't manage my relationships and I couldn’t even afford the apartment I was living in. In order to pay off my debts I was left with no other choice but to sell off all my studio equipment and musical instruments. As cliché as it sounds, that’s when a friend of mine told me about Pledge Music. It was my last chance to dedicate myself to music before literally and figuratively selling my dream downstream. I figured it was worth a shot, so instead of selling my equipment, I opted to start a crowd funding campaign to raise money in order to continue writing and recording. Luckily, the two album campaign was successful and I managed to raise just enough money to get back up on my feet. It was a shot in the dark, and it worked. Now, with a shift in my priorities and a more calculated approach to my musical career, I will hopefully be able to improve the wellbeing of my personal life as well as the growth of my solo project and the Future Idiots.
As far as 'What Still Romains goes,' the music is pretty similar to the Pop Punk stylings of the Future Idiots. The main difference being that the lyrics are more personal and immensely more honest. While recording, I drew an incredible amount of inspiration from Social Distortion and it just sort of lent itself to a decidedly more serious tone. I'm not going to pull the "I've grown up"-card like many bands do when they want try something new. I just set out to put together a very truthful record with increasingly serious content. There will be another Future Idiots album, and we will be bigger and better because of the changes that have been made, but for the time being, this album will serve as a starting point for the course correction of the rest of my life.
